2nd Annual American Day of Atonement

 —  —

Iliff School of Theology, Shattuck Hall, 2323 East Iliff Avenue, Denver

As citizens of the United States, it is part of our shared civic responsibility to wrestle with the challenging realities of American history, especially the ongoing legacy of bigotry and racism in America. Doing so need not to diminish our pride as Americans, individually and collectively. We confront injustices past and present to learn from them and to respond with action in service of the common good – coming together to build a nation that more fully realizes the ideals of equality, freedom, and justice for all – in word and deed.

What: inspired by the Jewish Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur (which falls on the 10th day of the Jewish year), we hope to make January 10th a day of civic learning, fasting, and acting – engaging our diverse communities in mindful reflection, dialogue, prayer, commitment, and action. This year’s theme will focus on the anti-racist efforts, atoning for and overcoming past and present injustices. The day’s activities will culminate in an inclusive gathering of civic leaders, elected officials, and representatives from a diverse array of secular and spiritual organizations.

When: January 10, 2023 from 7 PM to 8:30 PM Mountain Time.

Where: In-person at the Iliff School of Theology (Shattuck Hall, 2323 East Iliff Ave, Denver) and live streamed on Vimeo.

Sunday Morning Gathering

Congregation Beth Evergreen, 2981 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen, CO 80439

Join us ! THIS Sunday 10/9 @ 9am mountain time (in-person only) for BEYOND BELIEF with Rabbi Jamie Arnold, Laura Berman and Jeff King : music, message, meditation, with noshes and conversation after the service.

After the service at 11am, join us in the Open Sky Amphitheater at CBE as the community comes together to build a Sukkah, an outdoor dwelling place decorated with the essences of fall and filled with love, heart, generosity; the Sukkah is a central part of the next Jewish holiday, Sukkot and is a welcome place for newcomers ... ! !

MORE INFO: Laura Berman will be sharing a short talk at BEYOND BELIEF - a talk on Vows and Commitments; just after the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur, we recall the prayers and rituals during High Holiday services; we make vows, and also are forgiven, in advance, if we break them, if we miss the mark. In life, as humans, we can remember we are made in the Divine image, and practice our vow, staying committed to the Beloved, the Gd within, through and among/around us. We do that first by discovering what we need to stay aligned, connected in ways only we can discover. When we want to run, we stay. ❤
